Pioneer DJ releases a limited-edition fanzine for the CDJ’s 30th anniversary

Pioneer DJ has announced a limited-edition fanzine to celebrate the CDJ’s 30th birthday. The zine, called “Deckades,” has 1,000 print copies available on a first-come, first-served basis. It charts the CDJ’s history, from the CDJ-500 to the CDJ-3000, covering USB, MP3s, touchscreens, and more.

“Deckades” includes interviews with Fatboy Slim, Fabio, Anna Tur, Kikelomo, and TSHA. It outlines the specs and details of all 23 CDJ models, from the original 1994 model to the current flagship, the CDJ-3000. The CDJ-3000 is the first model without an optical CD drive but retains the CDJ name. The CDJ series played a key role in the transition from vinyl to CD, offering more than just a format change. It introduced features like cue and loop points, playlists, and the controversial sync button.

DJs and fans eager to get a print version of “Deckades” should act quickly, as copies are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Last year, Pioneer DJ’s parent company, AlphaTheta, tried to acquire DJ software Serato. However, the deal faced threats from the New Zealand Commerce Commission’s decision.
