YouTube Music has launched a music recognition feature for Android and iOS users. Users can now hum into the app to identify a track. This feature was initially teased last year and available via Google since 2020.
To use it, tap the magnifying glass in the app and hum the song. The app will return results based on match probability. You can then listen to the full song on YouTube Music. Users can also sing the song or play it on an instrument.
This feature builds on Google's previously released MusicLM tech. MusicLM lets users generate music from a text prompt or hum. YouTube Music is also experimenting with more AI and music recognition tools.
A new feature for Premium subscribers in the US is in the works. It allows users to create custom radio stations by verbally describing the music.
Currently, the hum, sing, or play feature is available only on iOS and Android. However, YouTube plans to roll it out to all users soon.
Earlier this month, we reported that YouTube is in talks with major labels. The talks involve an AI music licensing deal offering one-off payments for access to their music.
Last year, YouTube launched an experimental AI feature called Dream Track. Dream Track, powered by the new model Lyria, allows users to create music using AI voice clones of famous artists.
