Ableton introduces new portable instrument, Move

Ableton recently unveiled its latest standalone portable instrument, Move, designed for creating music on the go. This compact device is heavily inspired by the iconic Push instrument and offers a variety of features tailored for both beginners and experienced music producers.
Move comes equipped with 32 polyphonic aftertouch pads, a 16-step sequencer, and built-in speaker and microphone for easy sampling. It also seamlessly integrates with Ableton Live, allowing users to control the software and transfer projects between the device and Live. Move shares many functions with Push, including its chord trigger capabilities.
The instrument supports up to four tracks, each customizable as a drum kit, sampler, or instrument. Sampling is made simple with the built-in microphone, line-in input, and the ability to resample Move’s master output. With 1,500 built-in sounds and presets, the device is geared towards quick music creation, offering default sounds for drums, bass, pads, and leads. While Move focuses more on presets than on sound design, it still allows users to pitch drum sounds across 16 notes for melodic creation.
Additionally, Move features eight integrated audio effects, such as reverb, delay, and saturation, giving users the tools they need to shape their sound. It’s powered by a USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts up to four hours.
Alongside Move’s release, Ableton also launched Live 12.1, which includes exciting new features like Auto Shift, a pitch correction and harmonization tool, a new drum sampler, and AI-powered auto-tagging. Move is available for purchase at £399.
